4th grade painted paper birds

A few weeks ago, my fourth graders finished up a painted paper bird project.

They used painted paper from the first couple weeks of school and cut out the different parts of the bird on different colors of paper. I gave them many bird examples to looks at while they cut. After they glued on their bird, they made a simple background using chalk our oil pastels.

Needless to say, they turned out great!! I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Cut paper shape rainbows--kinders!

After assessing how well my kindergarteners used scissors with the butterfly project, I wanted to have them practice a little more. These rainbows were wonderful for that! Anytime I saw someone holding their scissors wrong, I was able to intervene and help. Hopefully it will stick with them. There are many reasons they need to hold their scissors the "right"way, but the main reason is safety.

Through this lesson, I was also able to teach primary and secondary colors. :) I was impressed by how well they already knew the colors of the rainbow!

They loved adding cotton balls to the bottom! They looked like little sheep with glue and cotton sticking all over their hands. It was pretty funny.

Kindergarten Eric Carl inspired butterflies!

A few weeks ago we used all that painted paper to make some great projects. These butterflies took a few weeks to make and they were worth the hard work. A little glitter makes everything better!

I didn't use a template with butterflies, but instead had them fold their paper,  draw one wing and then cut it out... and repeat! 

We did use the template for the seahorse if they wanted though. They turned out great!

2nd grade Eric Carl inspired seahorses!

The 2nd graders made an ocean with tempera paint first and then added seahorses out of their painted paper! They are so cute!!!
